Queenslanders organised this campaign over three issues.
The cost to our community is too great to ignore for all three issues. However, we still face a formidable challenge: We're fighting industries with very deep pockets.
Online gambling advertising
Online gambling causes serious health and mental health issues, worsening domestic violence and potentially contributing to one in five suicides. Targeted advertising is grooming our children during sports events.
Queensland complicity in Israel’s likely genocide in Gaza
The Queensland Government has spent big money on the involved weapons companies and has not done due diligence, as required under international law.
Climate Change
Our Earth is dangerously hot. People, animals and whole ecosystems are dying as a consequence.
Questions put to Candidates
A questionnaire for yes/no answers was emailed to candidates in key electorates for the Queensland state election.
The Questions
If elected, will you push legislation in parliament to ban online gambling advertising either completely or in phases (as outlined in Rec 26 of the Murphy Report), including moving ahead of the Australian Government if it continues to lack leadership on this issue?
If elected, will you push legislation and policies in parliament to apply the six recommendations of the Qld Conservation Council in their August report (p31) to ensure a safe climate for our kids and wildlife?
If elected, will you push legislation in parliament to stop and prevent the manufacturing and export of defence parts in Queensland for the Israeli military supply chain, including moving ahead of the Australian Government if it continues to lack leadership on this issue? (A United Nations Statement of 20 June 2024 listed involved companies, some of which operate in Queensland and receive Queensland Government money.)
If elected, will you, in parliament, name Israel as a perpetrator of atrocities in Gaza and demand a ceasefire and the release of the thousands of Palestinians in Israeli prisons?
If elected, will you condemn in parliament the Israeli occupation and apartheid as recognised in the historic International Court of Justice ruling on 19 July 2024?
If elected, will you call in parliament for concrete sanctions against the illegal Israeli occupation and settlements as called for by the International Court of Justice on 19 July 2024?
